1. Did you know that New Zealand and Denmark are the only two countries in the world that have two national anthems?
New Zealand has God Save The Queen and God Defend New Zealand. If you count the Maori version of God Defend New Zealand, E Ihowa, then we have three.
At Pt England School we sing E Ihowa and God Defend New Zealand at every Friday assembly.
2. Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand even though Auckland is the biggest city in the country.
3. In 1893, New Zealand was the first country to let women vote. I think that is pretty cool. Kate Sheppard is the lady who helped this happen. She is on our New Zealand $10 note.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Izzy and I am one of the Summer Learning Journey team members that gets to read your blog. I’m really happy that you decided to join us. I know you were not overly keen at first. I am an intermediate teacher and can promise you that this will help you prepare for next year!
I absolutely love the facts that you chose. I didn’t know that we were one of only two countries with two national anthems. We also sing both anthems at our Friday assembly. Does your school perform the haka between both versions? We do and it’s my favorite part. The school just buzzes with energy when we do it.
Thanks for sharing such exciting and interesting facts. You have made a really strong start to your SLJ. Keep up the awesome work!
