Immersion Assembly: Musical Madness! -Recount Writing T4W1

“Ohh weeee oh weeee oh weee weeee mum mum away!”
It was a great start to Term 4. I had no idea what we were going to be doing this term, but I was excited about finding out as we walked towards Immersion Assembly.

When we walked inside the hall Mr Burt, Mrs Nua, Mr Jacobsen, Mr Sommerville and Mr Wiseman was were in a band and they were singing this term's theme.  The theme for this term is Musical Madness. Mr Burt, Mrs Nua, Mr Jacobsen, Mr Sommerville and Mr Wiseman had finished their band song.

We watched each team do a play, song or a video, to let us know what they would be focusing their inquiry on.

First up Team 1 did a play. Their play started as a card game called “Snap!”.  They had different music playing as they were playing their game.  Some of it was happy, sad, slow and fast.  Team 1 will be learning about how music makes them feel.

Next, Miss Gaston got up on the stage with her ukulele and started to play and sing “In the Jungle”.  As she kept singing the different teachers from her team came up and played different instruments with funky masks and mohawks.  They went super crazy and then sang peacefully and slow and then went off.

Then it was Team 3.   Putting songs in the place of some of their talking.  I did like some of the songs they used.  After them was Team 4 ,and they were doing carpool karaoke when they were heading to school when they arrived they were listening to Wairua and Mr Jacobsen caught them and the he had his own carpool karaoke then it was finished.

Finally it was Team 5’s turn.  We didn’t know what they could be doing but they had popcorn and the teachers ate while watching Lion King but with different music.

The thing that I liked most about Immersion Assembly was the different kinds of music they played and I am excited about a great term we are going to have.

Term 3 Week 1 Reading dear diary

Xan and Zu want to take us with them to the future.
I am not sure if it is a good idea.  I will be excited to visit somewhere new.  I would be nervous because I don’t know how far it is.  I am scared that I will dong my head if there is no gravity. Will I be safe? Can I come back to my family or can they come too? Do they play real rugby there or virtual rugby? Can they bring anything into space or not? I’m not sure if they are allow to bring anything to space.

The flipping coin catcher

Miss West wanted us to do a fun experiment for writing, it was called the Catching Coins Challenge.

Miss West didn't have enough coins for us all, so we used counters instead.  At the beginning of the game you get one counter.  You have to put it on your elbow and then flick your arm and try and catch it.  If you can catch one, you get another counter to add to your elbow.  The winner is the person who can catch the most counters.  Most of my class could catch 12 counters. No one got more than that.  It was easy when we started off, but when I got to eleven counters it got hard.

Term 2 Immersion Assembly

Term 2 Immersion Assembly

In the morning we went to assembly.  We did our waiata.  We sat down, Mr Burt was talking a lot and telling us lots of information.  We were watching movies from Team 1 to Team 4.  Team 5 didn’t have a movie. Team 2’s movie was how to make kites.  The team 2 teachers made kites, and when they were ready they showed their kites.  Miss Tumahai showed her kite to the rest of her team and they were amazed.  They flew their kites. Team 4 are talking about how Maori fishing technology has changed over time.  Team 5 is looking at how to make the school clean.  My favourite part was Mr Wiseman pretending to Bob the Builder and singing the Bob the Builder song in a funny way.

Year 5 and 6 Camp

Camp Reflection - Year 5 & 6 Camp

Walt: add detail to our writing to support our ideas
Walt: reflect on events and our experiences

Are you ready kids?  Aye, Aye Captain!  I can’t hear you.  Aye, Aye Captain!
This term we had an amazing year five and six camp at Pt England School. I am going to tell you about some of the great activities I enjoyed at camp, including a couple of my highlights.

I really enjoyed the kayaking activity, our performance night and going to the Mangere pools. I had the best time at camp, because I was in the same camp group as my two best friends, AJ and Josh.  We were in the Captain's group with Mr Goodwin.

My first camp highlight was kayaking at the beach, OH MAN it was super windy. We had to eat our morning tea while running to the beach. Mr Burt and his helpers taught us how paddle in kayaking.

Our camp performance night was funny.  The song that the Captains danced to was called, The Best Song Ever from One Direction. We had four lines and I was in the third line.  Miss
Haare taught us the ‘Hit The Folks’ dance routine.  I liked the Sheriff's dancing the best.  My dad had to get up on stage with the other kids to play a game using a sandal.  He said that it was a Samoan compass.  I thought that was funny.

We went to Mangere pools on our last day of camp. I tried to do a BIG manu bomb...but I failed, and I hurt my back.  My back turned red, and I was winded. But I am OK now.

We learnt how to hold the paddle for a kayak properly.   I also learnt about myself that I like to wear other people's hats.

I would recommend that other kids do camp so they can have fun like me, and learn how kayak too.

I would like to thank Mr Sommerville, the teachers and helpers who provided this camp for the year five and six, also a big thank you to Mr Burt for giving us two day off for us.

Keep your cat's Inside

SLJ - D4A1

The weather is looking hot in Tokyo, Japan.

SLJ - D3A2

If I was to create my own airline I would call it Royals Flights after the Marist rugby team that I play for.  The colours I have chosen are yellow and blue, like my favourite Super Rugby team, The Highlanders.

SLJ - D3A1

I've never been on a plane before in my life.  I am a little bit nervous, but mostly excited.

I watched a safety video by some of my favourite sports team, the All Blacks, to learn a few things about flying safety.

1. When you see the seatbelt sign, make it click.

2. Turn all gadgets to flight mode.

3. Listen to the flight crew.

Bonus thing I learnt, Israel Dagg is a pretty good rapper.

Should Bullfighting in Spain be Banned?

I think that bullfighting in Spain SHOULD be banned for two reasons.

  1. It is cruel to the bulls.  The bulls are tortured days before the bullfight.  They are stabbed with an estocada during the fight to kill it.
  2. It is unsafe for the matadors.  They could get hurt if the bull gets his horns in to him.  If the matador trips or falls over the bull could trample him and crush his body.
I am lucky that I am not a matador nor a bull.

Hi Dad

Guess what!  I am going on holiday to Japan!  Don't worry Mum is coming too.  We won't be gone too long.

I have always wanted to visit Disneyland and see real live Sumo Wrestling.  Mum wants to see some of the places from the Fast and the Furious movie, Tokyo Drift and eat REAL sushi.

Check out my blog to keep updated on what we are doing and learning.

Love you, Jacob

PS Remember to feed the cat.
