Duffy Assembly - Recount

WALT: Write a recount with the right structure
WALT: Use interesting words to make your recount more exciting
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ever been to a Duffy assembly before? You don’t know what you are missing, aye.

Pt England School were lucky enough to enjoy our first Duffy assembly for 2018, last Wednesday.  As we walked to the hall, I wondered what story we were going to see acted out.

We sat in the hall in our classes.  The actors introduced themselves, Melanie, Ashley and Duffy. We tried to sing the Duffy song.  It was pretty sad, not a lot of people actually sang.  The actors did the sign language version of the song. That was pretty cool.

The story they acted out was about a girl named Melanie and she was being bullied by Ashley.  Ashley would say unkind things and take her lunch.  It was really sad.  Melanie liked to read especially when she couldn’t sleep at night.

My favourite part of the assembly was when Duffy stood up for Melanie.  I think that was cool and the right thing to do.  It’s just like the Pt England way.

I learned that being a bully is not cool, but being kind is.

I can’t wait till the next Duffy assembly!

Task Description: This week we wrote a recount about the Duffy assembly that we had a school this week.

Immersion Assembly: Musical Madness! -Recount Writing T4W1

“Ohh weeee oh weeee oh weee weeee mum mum away!”
It was a great start to Term 4. I had no idea what we were going to be doing this term, but I was excited about finding out as we walked towards Immersion Assembly.

When we walked inside the hall Mr Burt, Mrs Nua, Mr Jacobsen, Mr Sommerville and Mr Wiseman was were in a band and they were singing this term's theme.  The theme for this term is Musical Madness. Mr Burt, Mrs Nua, Mr Jacobsen, Mr Sommerville and Mr Wiseman had finished their band song.

We watched each team do a play, song or a video, to let us know what they would be focusing their inquiry on.

First up Team 1 did a play. Their play started as a card game called “Snap!”.  They had different music playing as they were playing their game.  Some of it was happy, sad, slow and fast.  Team 1 will be learning about how music makes them feel.

Next, Miss Gaston got up on the stage with her ukulele and started to play and sing “In the Jungle”.  As she kept singing the different teachers from her team came up and played different instruments with funky masks and mohawks.  They went super crazy and then sang peacefully and slow and then went off.

Then it was Team 3.   Putting songs in the place of some of their talking.  I did like some of the songs they used.  After them was Team 4 ,and they were doing carpool karaoke when they were heading to school when they arrived they were listening to Wairua and Mr Jacobsen caught them and the he had his own carpool karaoke then it was finished.

Finally it was Team 5’s turn.  We didn’t know what they could be doing but they had popcorn and the teachers ate while watching Lion King but with different music.

The thing that I liked most about Immersion Assembly was the different kinds of music they played and I am excited about a great term we are going to have.
